Guruvayur Temple, located in Kerala’s town of Guruvayur, is one of the most revered Hindu temples in South India. Known as Bhooloka Vaikunta, it is dedicated to Lord Guruvayurappan, a form of Lord Krishna.

Managed by the Guruvayur Devaswom Board, the temple has a history rooted in legend, believed to be consecrated by Guru and Vayu. The main deity resides in the Garbhagriha, radiating peace and divine grace. The temple’s architecture features beautiful gopurams, the Deepastambam (pillar of light), and the golden Dwajasthamba. The Krishnanattam dance-drama, performed here, narrates Krishna’s life with devotion and artistry.
Festivals
Major festivals include the 10-day Ulsavam in February-March, Guruvayur Ekadasi, and the Chembai Music Festival, which features over 2,000 Carnatic musicians. The temple opens at 3:00 AM daily and draws lakhs of devotees each year seeking blessings, peace, or to fulfill vows.
